God Of War Could Have Had A Different Location!

The Norse mythology/region wasn’t the only subject that Sony Interactive Entertainment Santa Monica was considering during the development.

Cory Barlog, God of War‘s director, held a speech at Devcom in Cologne (obviously a Gamescom-related event), and here, according to GameSource, he revealed that the development wasn’t always fully set on the Norse mythology. The team was considering Egyptian, Inca, and Hindu myths, too!

After limiting the choices to two, there was still an Egyptian idea running around in the team, which couldn’t decide on which set the game should use. Barlog was the tiebreaker in favour of the Nordic setting, according to this Twitter post! That doesn’t mean SIE Santa Monica wasn’t working on Egyptian assets or concept art – you can see some below under this bunch of characters.

Barlog also showed Atreus‘ evolution during the development. According to him, the concept „scared many people,” and they only had two years of making the PlayStation 4-exclusive, highly rated and best-selling game despite having three years of content.

An Egyptian Kratos could have worked, though…
