SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive Mini Gets Delayed!

The initially scheduled launch for the SEGA Genesis (Mega Drive in Europe and Japan) will not happen.

SEGA announced on Twitter that the „minified” 16-bit console will launch sometime in 2019. Although the launch was set to happen this year, the Western audience took the announcement so positively that the company wants to have a simultaneous release both in Europe and North America too with their respective mini consoles.

SEGA also established a system to rethink the device’s design, and they collaborate with the original team, as well as Japanese developers because they don’t want to let the fans down. They probably won’t use the planned initially AtGames design, which might turn out to be a good idea.

Oh well – there’s another mini console set to launch at the end of the year. The PlayStation Classic should keep us busy. We wrote about it in detail.
