PlayStation Network: Are Username Changes Being Prepared?

Three developer teams have told Kotaku that they are preparing to make PlayStation Network username changes possible.

They revealed that in the past few months, they have been fixing bugs and changed settings to complete Sony‘s requirements. A fourth person has also sent a photo from the documentation that seemed to be a guide on how to change your username on the PlayStation Network. (Unfortunately, this photo was not published…)

The developers also said that they have a difficult, time-consuming task in front of them, as our PlayStation Network username is linked to our account ID instead of a universally unique identifier, and fixing older multiplayer games retroactively isn’t easy. These are the reasons why Sony hasn’t even planned when to announce this new option.

Sony hasn’t responded yet, but remember: a year ago, Shawn Layden said at the 2017 PlayStation Experience that we’d be able to change our PlayStation Network usernames in a year. However, the 2018 PSX is not going to happen this year, so even guessing when the option becomes a reality is difficult…

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title.
