Starbreeze’s Nightmare Continues: One Publishing Right Less!

The Swedish company has been hit hard by the failure of The Walking Dead, which is why they had to sell back one game’s publishing rights.

Starbreeze announced on its website that System Shock 3, which is a highly anticipated title, is not going to be released by them, as they sold back its publishing rights to OtherSide Entertainment (where Warren Spector, the producer of the first game, a legend in the industry is also working!). It means that after acquiring the rights in 2017 and somewhat funding System Shock 3‘s development, Starbreeze had to give up being its publisher.

„I believe this is the best solution for us, although it is sad that we cannot complete the project with OtherSide. System Shock 3 is a fantastic title developed in cooperation with the industry legend Warren Spector and I am looking forward to seeing the game released,” Starbreeze‘s acting CEO, Mikael Nermark, said in a press release.

However, Starbreeze will keep Psychonauts 2’s publishing rights (it’s being developed by Tim Schafer’s Double Fine Productions!), but how long can they keep it? (The same question goes for Mohawk Games’ 10 Crowns, too…)

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
