The SEGA Mega Drive / Genesis Mini Gets A Release Date!

SEGA has previously delayed the launch of the mini Mega Drive (or Genesis you happen to be in North America), but now, we know when the 16-bit mini console will launch!

SEGA announced on Twitter that the SEGA Mega Drive / Genesis Mini will launch worldwide on September 19, and we have also learned that the console will come with 40 games. The Japanese pricing could be a good starting point for the Western price tag – the base model will cost 6980 Japanese yen (roughly 70 dollars), and the two-controller version (six-button, of course!) will be 8980 yen (about 90 bucks).

The game line-up will differ between the Japanese, European, and North American versions. At the moment, we only know ten games of the Japanese console – they are the following: Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Puyo Puyo Tsu, Shining Force, Vampire Killer, Wrestleball, Gunstar Heroes, Comix Zone, Rent A Hero, Space Harrier II, Madou Monogatari I – a few games make sense on the list, but we’d like to ask why is the SECOND Sonic game on the list? (Are they going to confirm the first one at a later date…?)

So, the SEGA Mega Drive / Genesis Mini will come in the early Autumn days, and it will be powered via USB, and it will use an HDMI connection to display video.
