Did The Avengers’ Release Date Leak?

If we say that once again, Amazon managed to leak something prematurely – this time around, it’s Crystal Dynamics’ and Eidos Montreal’s The Avengers game, to be published by Square Enix -, nobody would be surprised whatsoever. Us included.

Amazon UK managed to list an unannounced Square Enix game for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with a May 15, 2020 release date. As it falls on a Friday, it looks too exact to be called a temporary, placeholder release date. As the Disney-Square Enix agreement was announced all the way back in January 2017, seeing Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal aim for a mid-2020 launch would make sense for The Avengers, which is going to be officially revealed during Square Enix’ E3 program.

„Embrace your powers and join key members of the development team at Crystal Dynamics and the creative team at Marvel Games as they talk exclusively about the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers. This is the defining Avengers gaming experience: an epic action-adventure that combines cinematic storytelling with continuous single-player and co-operative gameplay. Moderated by Andrea Rene, assemble in teams up to four players, master extraordinary abilities, customize your heroes to fit your playstyle, and combine powers to defend an ever-expanding world under constant threat,” the game’s description reads on E3 Coliseum’s website.

However, we have another guess: what if this release date is for the first part of Final Fantasy VII Remake? As we wrote about how it was listed for Xbox One, not just PlayStation 4, it could be another possibility. (Especially how even Final Fantasy XV got an Xbox One version.)

As we’re just days away from E3, we’ll figure out what Square Enix’ plans are soon. (Perhaps they might even confirm when Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 1 might come!)
