PlayStation 5: Ratchet & Clank Amongst The Launch Titles?

The Ratchet & Clank duo could be preparing a return, according to new rumours.

The Ratchet & Clank series launched on the PlayStation 2 nearly two decades ago. The games were being developed by Insomniac Games, who got acquired by Sony Interactive Entertainment last year, making the team part of the PlayStation-family.

Now, Colin Moriarty, a former industry journalist says on the 26th instalment of Sacred Symbols+ that Ratchet and Clank will return, and they might even be part of the PlayStation 5 launch line-up. He added that this game will be playable before the studio’s other project, as the new Ratchet & Clank has been in development for a while. (So it’s a well-kept secret!) Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is also in development, but we might have to wait for Peter Parker et al until 2021. (Regarding Spider-Man’s sequel, we discussed the rumours a few times.)

The newest game in the Ratchet & Clank series is 2016’s Ratchet & Clank. The PlayStation 4-exclusive was a reimagining of the first game, plus it also had ties to the animated movie that also launched that year. Since then, four years have passed, and the PlayStation 4 got nothing else since then. Before it, we had Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus on the PlayStation 3 in 2013. Before that, we had Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault in 2012 (which got renamed to QForce in a few regions because of sexual hints in the name), plus we also had the Collection (or Trilogy in Europe) that year, putting the first three games of the series on one Blu-ray disc.

If Moriarty doesn’t lie, then Insomniac has two projects, and Ratchet and Clank has been the one that they slowly put together, as Spider-Man probably had priority. We wouldn’t refuse to play a new 3D action-platformer.
