GDC 2020: Two Companies Stay Away!

The coronavirus affects more and more events – now, the Game Developers Conference (DGC 2020) is one of them. We also learned the new date of the Taipei Game Show.

Yesterday, we wrote about how Sony will skip PAX East, which will be held in late February, meaning the potentially only way to way The Last of Us Part II is out the window as well. Now, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s representative told Gamesindustry that they will not be participating at GDC this year either, and they used the exact same comment they used on the PlayStation Blog. We’re not joking: „We have made the difficult decision to cancel our participation in Game Developers Conference due to increasing concerns related to COVID-19 (also known as coronavirus). We felt this was the best option as the situation related to the virus and global travel restrictions are changing daily. We are disappointed to cancel our participation, but the health and safety of our global workforce is our highest concern. We look forward to participating in GDC in the future.” If they are so lazy, so are we…

The other delinquent would be Facebook, or its Oculus subsidiary, to be exact. However, they at least said they will still make announcements at this year’s GDC, but will now do so via digital formats, such as „video, online Q&As, and more.” GDC 2020 will be held between March 16 and 20 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.

Due to the coronavirus, the Taipei Game Show was previously delayed. We might have seen Elden Ring, FromSoftware’s new game here (and we suspect it to become a next-gen title…). Originally, it would have been running from February 6 to 9, but it was pushed back to the summer. Now, we know that it’s going to be open between June 25 and 28 at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition. So shortly after E3. Let’s hope it won’t be delayed again.

Will Sony be out at any event this year? They should reveal at least the PlayStation 5. They can’t skip that…

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
