Project G.G.: Hideki Kamiya’s Next PRoject

Project G.G. – It seems that this is going to be the second of the Platinum 4 titles (the first one being The Wonderful 101 Remastered’s Kickstarter-campaign).

This week’s Famitsu issue was the first to break the news of PlatinumGames‘ title, which would be the last part of Hideki Kamiya’s hero trilogy. (The first one is likely Viewtiful Joe, and the second is The Wonderful 101. According to the interview (which features Hideki Kamiya and Atsushi Inaba, the head and executive vice president of the studio), Project G.G. is directed by Kamiya, and Inaba added that they will go against the user experiences, but in a good way. Kamiya had something interesting to say: „Where Viewtiful Joe is Kamen Rider-esque in that one guy transforms into a hero, and The Wonderful 101 is more like a group of people transforming into heroes, Project G.G. is a giant hero-esque title.” Which means it could be their Ultraman, something popular in Japan.

We don’t know what the genre would be, as Inaba described it as „something-something, action, something-something.” „While its feel as an action game is important, it is not a game solely focused on action,” Kamiya added. The game – according to Inaba – would be launched „on all existing platforms.” (PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch?) The project is in an early stage, and PlatinumGames is recruiting for it. They just opened an office in Tokyo, which would eventually have 100 employees (it has 15 at the moment). There’s one other interesting quote from Inaba: „In the past, we have received capital investment-like proposals similar to the one from Tencent, but there was much talk of Platinum Games losing its independence, so we turned them down as not trade our freedom for stability.” (Jokingly, Kamiya also added this: „[Astral Chain director] Takahisa Taura beat me in a Twitter poll for ‘Creators I Want to Work With,’ so I’m a bit sad.”)

Inaba revealed something about the fourth of the Platinum 4 games: „The last one is a secret. We’re doing something very Platinum and interesting. Look forward to it.” Still, Project G.G. is going to be something different and unusual in comparison to the previous PlatinumGames projects.

Eventually, we’ll learn what these games will be.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
