DOOM Eternal: The Nintendo Switch Port Will Surprise Us

The DOOM Eternal game’s director was stunned about the port on Nintendo’s hybrid platform.

„We haven’t talked about dates or anything [regarding the Switch port] – I can say that I played it about a week ago, and I am stunned. Our partner on that, Panic Button, I’ve referred to them many times as masters of the platform, and they’re proving it again. I think it’s gonna surprise people […]. I see it all the time in the comments when we release a video: ‘Can’t wait to play it on Switch, can’t wait to play it on Switch.’ I think people are going to love it,” Marty Stratton, DOOM Eternal’s director, told USGamer. (In this interview, he also said if there was a DOOM-Animal Crossing cross-over, it’d depend on Nintendo. The reason why it was brought up is that this game shares the release date with the new Animal Crossing instalment, and he loves the memes about it.) We wonder what he’d call the now-Embracer Group-owned Saber Interactive then? They were responsible for the outstanding Nintendo Switch port of The Witcher 3.

Regarding the UI, Stratton added: „They (Panic Button) have a whole team of UI artists. It is a small screen, so there are times we pack a lot of information onto the screen, but yes. Menus, UI, the dossier – a lot of adjustments across the board to make sure that, again, it is the best possible version you can get on the Switch.”

DOOM Eternal will launch on March 20 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Those who pre-order the game will get DOOM 64 as well on that day. The Nintendo Switch port is coming at a later, unknown date. The platform turns three tomorrow, and it has been topping the sales charts as both Sony and Microsoft focus on their respective next-gen console. Let’s hope we won’t have to wait several months as with the first game’s port.
