Half-Life: Alyx: It’s Not The End Of The Series!

Half-Life: Alyx – Valve confirmed that after Alyx’ story, Gabe Newell and his team will do more Half-Life games.

Half-Life: Alyx is coming roughly twelve and a half years after Half-Life 2: Episode Two. That’s a significant time difference, and since then, we almost saw two console generations come and leave. Valve doesn’t think though that Alyx’ adventures will be a one-off for the studio – Robin Walker, one of the devs, told GameInformer the following:

„Half-Life means a lot to us, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to refamiliarize ourselves with its characters, setting, and mechanics. There are team members who have been at Valve since Half-Life 2, and quite a few who go back to the original Half-Life. There are also people on the team for whom Half-Life: Alyx is their first time working on this series at all – and many of them certainly hope it’s not the last. We see Half-Life: Alyx as our return to this world, not the end of it.” So there are a few people that spent about 22 years at Valve already. And it’s also a VR game because Valve wanted to reach new heights of depth.

So Valve doesn’t want to just make a game set between the events of the first Half-Life game and the second (as Half-Life: Alyx is actually meant to be a prequel to Half-Life 2), but they want to do more. Half-Life 3? Nah, forget about it. Half-Life 2: Episode 3? No.

Valve also confirmed on Twitter that the Valve Index – which has been out of stock recently… – is going to be available once again on March 9, at 10 AM PT/1 PM ET. And if you buy Valve’s VR headset, you’ll get the game for free. (Which should be a given if you spend a thousand dollars…) We also learned that if you already have a Valve Index, then you can discover two environments in SteamVR from the game. You can also do it with a friend.

Half-Life: Alyx launches on March 23. Remember, a VR headset is REQUIRED!
