Silent Hill: Something IS In The Works, It Seems

Konami recently said that nothing related to Silent Hill is in development. Now, we see signs of the opposite happening.

Recently, Suehiro Maruo shared a few photos on Tumblr, which was quickly posted on ResetEra as well.

Afternoon invitations, hope you’ll join in, eh? What a caption for a picture that says Silent Hills. Also, the other photo blatantly shows Konami’s logo. Oh, and Maruo happens to be a horror manga artist. It means he has to have some ties to Silent Hill, which could at least receive a new manga, but potentially, something more than that. Kojima Productions was recently posting a few suspicious photos regarding Silent Hills (which we mentioned, too).

Previously, rumours said that Silent Hill could be getting a soft reboot, which could also be followed by an episodic (Telltale, Until Dawn-styled) approach, but Konami’s US representative stepped in and said that it’s all fake news. Now, we should point at KatharsisT’s ResetEra post.

The user claims that the Silent Hill remake will be announced in the next few months, and it would involve Keiichiro Toyama (who only worked on the first game as its director), Masahiro Ito (monster designer), and Akira Yamaoka (composer). It effectively repeats the original rumour (former Team Silent heads, PlayStation 5-exclusivity). It sounds reasonable: Toyama happens to be an employee of… surprise, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Japan Studio. Also, KatharsisT has confirmed its sources to the site’s moderators – you can’t post unsubstantiated rumours there. There was no mention of Kojima, who suspiciously started to talk about his intentions of making a horror game.

AestheticGamer added his few cents on Twitter: „Because some people are asking me about it due to Suehiro Maruo visiting Konami’s offices and posting the Silent Hills thing, I’ll continue saying what I’ve been saying: I still believe what I’ve shared is true (Sony Japan Studio making a Silent Hill game with Toyama, Yamaoka and Masahiro Ito working on it with others). I never shared and debunked the Sony buying Konami IPs rumours (because that’s bullsh_t). Kojima’s game was in the talks, and from what I hear, it’s still being negotiated but not worked on yet due to another potential deal. If I get proof what I’ve heard is bullshit, I’ll share so publicly, but I still stand by what I said. I still believe it, I was shown some very compelling evidence, and I believe it’s still happening. People don’t need to believe me on this, but just know I still do.” Rely On Horror also stands by, claiming that Konami’s US representative might have lied (or he has no clue what the home offices in Japan are planning).

So more people keep saying Silent Hill might be coming back, which would be good competition for Resident Evil 8: Village (we wrote about the new RE game’s rumours as well in the past few days).
