The 60FPS of PS5 and Xbox Series X will be a challenge for indies studios, according to the authors of The Sinking City

Frogwares claims that the first games of the new generation will not reach their full potential.

Very soon we could see novelties PS5 and Xbox X Series. Microsoft workers have assured that they have prepared demos and many surprises, so a possible Xbox digital event in May sounds increasingly stronger. On the other hand, PS5 showed us its DualSense controller recently, although we still do not know much about the catalogue that awaits us.

Would Happen Smoothly In a recent interview with Wccftech, Frogwares Community Manager Sergey Oganesyan discussed how the industry’s smallest studios are coping with next-gen game development. After praising the capabilities of the new SSDs, which he calls “a lifesaver,” he explains that 60FPS will not be the standard, at least for the first year.

“I think more and more developers will offer you to choose between resolution and frame rate,” said Oganesyan. “I hope that 60 FPS will become the standard, but optimization is not that easy, especially for smaller studies,” he concluded.

Besides, he also wanted to compare the generation change with the first months of PS4’s life, noting that the transition will not be abrupt and that we will see very similar games in graphic terms. “But we should all expect things like better textures, better frame rates, better lighting, better loading time, bigger maps, a more detailed environment, etc. Which is a lot and the improvements will be more than notable”, added.

Frogwares was in charge of developing The Sinking City, the detective game based on the HP Lovecraft literature. Undoubtedly, indies studios look cautiously at the possibilities offered by the new generation of consoles, although there is still much to know. Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
