Fable: Announcement Imminent?

The return of Fable might be one of the crown jewels of the Xbox Series X.

We’ve kept track of the events around the Fable Twitter account (as well as Perfect Dark’s), and meanwhile, we strongly suspected that Playground Games, the devs of the Forza Horizon series, is behind it. (Not to mention that we already predicted Fable the moment they announced the opening of their second studio…) Microsoft isn’t going to let one of its previous but big IPs rest.

„Just to get that expectation right, I don’t think anyone should expect a Fable announcement with a gameplay demo like what Halo Infinite will do. I guess this will rather be in the Horizon II-trailer-like ballpark, so an in-engine trailer but somewhat indicative of what to expect,” Klobrille, a reliable insider, wrote on the ResetEra forums. He added something else of interest: „The question is not if the online multiplayer paywall falls. The question is when.” By Horizon II, he meant Horizon Forbidden West, and Halo Infinite getting gameplay is expected by this point.

Here’s a small blurb of what got leaked of the Fable reboot: „Albion and Aurora are gone. “Lands reduced to fables.” The Spire was rebuilt and used by a mad king to wish that an asteroid would strike the planet. He also wished it would happen again in the far future. Aeons later and everything is new (medieval themed, new continents) and you have to stop the destruction of the planet again. Theresa and a Heroes Guild are preserved on another planet via a demon door. Time Travel heavily involved in [the game]play. Jack of Blades returns.”

The game might be announced on July 23, at the Xbox Games Showcase. Until then, this isn’t official yet. If Microsoft does shut down the paywall for multiplayer (which is possibly why the annual Xbox Live Gold subscription model is gone), Sony might be in a tough situation with the PlayStation Plus.
