Easter Eggs In The Last Of Us Part II’s New Game Modes

Naughty Dog‘s game’s two new game modes contain surprises, but only for those who complete them.

Recently, the PlayStation 4-exclusive The Last of Us Part II has been updated by two new game modes, namely Grounded and Permadeath, and if you successfully reach the ending in them, you get the easter eggs during the staff roll, and let’s get the usual warning out of the way – read further at your risk, don’t say we did not warn you.

So Grounded was already in the first The Last of Us. It cranks up the game’s difficulty by „making enemies deadlier and ammo, upgrade, and crafting materials incredibly scarce.” If that’s not all, how about removing listen mode? You can no longer use your inner radar to see where your enemies are, meaning you can’t easily plan your route. If you reach the ending, the ending will feature Joel’s interpretation of Future Days by Pearl Jam. You might recognize the melody, but the full version of the song can only be heard here.

Permadeath might be somewhat harder, as you die once, you start from the beginning (and it can be extremely annoying if you die because of a ladder or if you unpause the game while climbing a rope). If you reach the ending in one piece, Through the Valley by Shawn James is heard. This song has been often featured in The Last of Us Part II’s marketing (trailers and adverts). If you beat Naughty Dog’s game in any other difficulty, you can hear Ellie and Joel perform Wayfaring Stranger by Johnny Cash.

The Last of Us Part II released a little over two months ago, and it’s likely going to become the best-selling PlayStation 4 title.
