Prince Of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake Will Have A Next-Gen Upgrade

It looks like we have another game that will offer you a free upgrade in the next console generation.

The French publisher has hidden a few intriguing details on the Ubisoft Store, which was quickly dissected on the ResetEra forums. So if you buy Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, you can upgrade to the PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Series version for free. (Within the same console family, but that’s something we don’t have to explain.) Interestingly, there’s also a Nintendo Switch version listed on this page. Hold on, that wasn’t even mentioned by Ubisoft yet!

Unfortunately, we don’t know further details about the next-gen upgrades (native or upscaled 4K resolution? 60 or 120 FPS frame rate? etc…), but let’s see what Pierre Sylvain-Gires, the game’s director, had to say about the remake’s art style: „We wanted to give a unique look to the game because Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a fantasy story. The narration, the 40 different levels you have to go through to finish the game are an immersion into the Thief of Baghdad and all these magical environments. So we decided to go for a unique visual treatment to make this game stand out from other games.” In our eyes, Ubisoft went for the lowest common denominator, which in our case is now the Nintendo Switch, and they developed the game so that it can easily run on that platform, too.

„2020 has been a year like no other. Today we wanted to let you know that we are taking additional time to work on the game. With that, the release date for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has been moved to March 18, 2021. We believe this is the right call to ensure we will deliver a game you will enjoy,” Ubisoft India wrote when they delayed the game a couple of weeks ago.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will thus launch on March 18 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch ports are now all but confirmed.
