Is An External Studio Developing Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic 3?

Rumours claim that the next instalment of Knights of the Old Republic is not in development within Electronic Arts.

VGC reported of Bespin Bulletin, a Star Wars insider podcast. Here’s the relevant quote that caught our attention: „Amongst my digging, I heard there is a Knights of the Old Republic project in development somewhere. I talked to a couple of people, and I also found out that Jason Schreier said that it’s not with Electronic Aarts, and we’ll ‘never guess’ who the studio is that’s making this game.”

Shinobi602, a well-known insider, also confirmed this game’s existence but adding that the studio behind it might be highly surprising: „It’s not as mysterious as you think. It’s just not a household name most people are aware of.” So we should think of either a smaller team or a group that does not release games regularly. It’s possibly the result of the reborn LucasFilm Games: they confirmed that MachineGames (the team responsible for Wolfenstein since 2014) is developing an Indiana Jones game, and Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment (The Division) are preparing for an open-world Star Wars RPG!

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic launched in 2003 on Xbox and PC, a year later on Mac, and in 2013/2014, on iOS and Android as well. The director and the producer was Casey Hudson who has since left BioWare. The sequel was developed by Obsidian Entertainment. It released in 2004 on Xbox, a year later on PC, on Mac and Linux in 2015, then in December 2020, the iOS and Android both got it. Both titles were hardcore RPGs.

Nothing is official yet, but we have heard rumours for a while that „KOTOR” is going to get a new game. We might hear about it shortly.
