CD Projekt: The Security Measures Have Been Done; A WitcherCon Is Coming

After the February cyberattack, information might have leaked to illegal hands (including the games’ source codes, but we are not necessarily talking about this…).

Here’s what CD Projekt (CDP for short) wrote on its website: „We are not yet able to confirm the exact contents of the data in question, though we believe it may include current/former employee and contractor details in addition to data related to our games. Furthermore, we cannot confirm whether or not the data involved may have been manipulated or tampered with following the breach.” Data related to their games? The source code of the RED Engine, as well as Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3, as well as its next-gen version…

What measures have they done? „Since the breach, we have taken multiple measures to secure and harden our internal systems to protect against breaches like this in the future. These measures include the following: CD Projekt core IT infrastructure has been redesigned and rolled out; new next-generation firewalls with advanced anti-malware protection have been implemented; a new remote-access solution has been employed; the number of privileged accounts, and access rights to accounts, has been limited; a new mechanism for the protection of endpoints, servers, and networks has been installed; our event-monitoring mechanisms have been improved; we have expanded our internal security department; we have established cooperation with multiple external cybersecurity & IT specialists,” the Poles claim.

„We would also like to state that — regardless of the authenticity of the data being circulated — we will do everything in our power to protect the privacy of our employees, as well as all other involved parties. We are committed and prepared to take action against parties sharing the data in question,” the company added.

CD Projekt RED also teamed up with Netflix to hold WitcherCon on July 9. It will start on July 9 at 10 AM Pacific/1 PM Eastern on YouTube and Twitch. Here’s an overview of what to expect: „WitcherCon is an epic event for Witcher fans old and new, bringing together the worlds of The Witcher video games and the TV series. It will feature a variety of entertaining and interactive panels spotlighting the people who brought The Witcher to life in-game and on-screen; breaking news, exclusive behind the scenes and never-before-seen reveals from across The Witcher franchise; intimate looks into the creativity and production behind CD Projekt RED’s games, including the upcoming mobile game The Witcher: Monster Slayer, comic books and fan gear, and Netflix’s live-action series The Witcher plus merchandise, as well as the anime film Nightmare of the Wolf; expert explorations into the lore, legends, monsters and origins of the Continent.”

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
