Might & Magic X: Legacy: Instead Of Fixing It, Ubisoft Gets Rid Of It!

The French publisher could easily fix the issue in one of its games, but instead, it decided to pick the anti-consumer option.

Might & Magic X: Legacy launched in 2014, and it’s the series’ newest instalment. However, Ubisoft has shut down many of its games’ servers, removing their online component. However, this game is not an MMO or something you play in multiplayer… so let’s mention the sole DLC released for it, called The Falcon & The Unicorn.

The problem here is that if you own the DLC, then you cannot play further than the first Act. It’s no joke: Ubisoft has put its DRM checks into the story tied to online servers, making the rest of the game legally inaccessible for the fans of the franchise. The sad part is that for about a month, the game was still available for sale after the shutdown of the servers, which, again, brings up anti-consumer thoughts.

What would a good publisher do? They’d issue an apology and then fix the issue to make the game still playable. But no: Ubisoft instead decided to pull the game’s Deluxe Edition and DLC off Steam (and other platforms) on Friday, making it no longer available for purchase. If you look at the reviews, Might & Magic X: Legacy is now getting negative reviews, although this is justified this time around, as they bring attention to this unfortunate situation.

Ubisoft says it’s looking into the issue, but knowing them, the issue either won’t be fixed or if it will be, it will use the warez version’s method (which would be a repeat of history: in 2008, Ubisoft did just that with Rainbow Six: Vegas 2).

So if you want to play this game or its DLC, at the moment, you have no legal solutions to do so. As Mark Darrah has recently said, in this case, until Ubisoft fixes the issue, pirating the game would be a reasonable solution!
