An Olympic Athlete Wins A Gold Medal While Wearing A Witcher Medallion!

Andrzej Sapkowski, the creator of The Witcher, can now be satisfied, as his work has shown up at the Olympics.

Vitalina Batsarashkina is good at shooting air pistols. She won the gold medal at the 10m event, and if you look a bit more closely, you can see something extra. Batsarashkina was wearing a Witcher medallion while competing! (We have to specify here that she was wearing Ciri’s medallion, representing the School of the Cat.)

During the medal ceremony, we couldn’t see the medallion, but it’s likely due to the strict rules regarding the ceremony (or, maybe it just wasn’t visible). And the best part is that it isn’t the first time she showcased that she is a big fan of The Witcher series. Batsarashkina competed at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, and there, she wore Geralt’s medallion (the School of the Wolf), and she also had Witcher-teamed eyewear. Let’s also not forget about her tweet from 2018, in which she showcased a shirt with Geralt on it. She’s a fan.

Her pose while competing looks casual, but it works quite nicely. Here’s an explanation from Twitter: „When you’re shooting as precisely as that, your heartbeat throws off your aim, so they stand as relaxed as possible and still maintain a firm stance.” That makes sense, but here’s a former Indian competitive shooter, Suma Shirur on the Olympics’ website: „If I have to control the movement, hold my body steady, at the same place for a long period, I need a lot of muscle endurance. That needs a lot of strength. For that, you need to have good fitness.”

Congratulations to Batsarashkina (winning a gold medal is no mean feat after all), and it’s a pleasure to see professional athletes showcasing their fandom towards familiar franchises.
