EA and Bioware Might Leave Frostbite Out In the Cold For the Next Mass Effect!

A job listing on Electronic Art’s website hints at Bioware ditching Frostbite for Unreal Engine, and Mass Effect 5 could potentially run on Epic’s engine.

Another day, another job listing hinting at possibilities at changes within EA’s strict rules. This is interesting since EA has been adamant about using Frostbite on most of their games to avoid paying fees for licencing to Epic and other companies.

However, it seems due to difficulties with Anthem’s and Mass Effect Andromeda’s development, plus the success and rapid turnaround development of Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, might have convinced EA not to keep forcing down Frostbite on every developer’s throat.

While Dragon Age 4 is still under Frostbite, it seems Mass Effect 5 get an engine change, as according to rumours, everything is possible now.

Frostbite has its issues, and while devs have made great games with it, past reports suggest, Third Person Shooters and RPG games suffer under it as it does not have certain specific tools for the developers and requires a lot of messing about with the engine to get things right.

Time will tell whether we will really see a new Mass Effect under Unreal Engine, but regardless, it will look beautiful in the end, as both engines allow for stunning visuals. According to rumours heard by Jeff Grubb – Mass Effect 5 could be released around 2025 if all goes according to track with Dragon Age 4 as Bioware is still working on that game.
