Darkest Dungeon 2 – Early Access Date announced

Darkest Dungeon 2 was announced in 2019 as a small teaser, and now the developers have confirmed when the early access will begin in 2021.

The original Darkest Dungeon was a breakthrough hit for the company, and many dlcs and updates followed after the original game’s release back in 2016. It is a grim turn-based game, with a difficulty that is sometimes more punishing than any of the X-Com games combined.

So after the final DLC and update wrapped up for the first game, many wondered if the company would go towards a new kind of game, create a new world, or maybe a large expansion pack for the first game. In the end, a sequel was announced which is no longer just about travelling around the Mansion and its corresponding locations, but our adventurers will now travel the world to find their destiny.

The sequel will transition from a 2D perspective to a 3D one, and characters will travel from location to location, completing quests and killing off demons. The combat system has also been improved and updated; one of the significant decisions for the sequel was to make it less random and allow the player to be more prepared for attacks against enemies.

Just like the first game, the second game is also getting early access to fine-tune the game before its official release, although this time, it will be on Epic Games Store exclusively rather than Steam.

Darkest Dungeon 2 will be available on PC  for early access on the 26th of October 2021. No console release date or ports have been announced yet, but if everything goes to plan, it will be released on almost all of the major consoles, including the Nintendo Switch, just like the last time.
