Spider-Man 2: Marvel says the sequel will be darker

Marvel’s creative vice president says Spider-man 2 will be like Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. A perfect analogy – we hope!

We’ve still got a long way to go before we can get our hands on Spider-Man 2, but Marvel itself has started to reveal more details about what Insomniac Games‘ new video game has in store for us. According to the developer, the sequel will be “darker” than the original game, as we suspected after the announcement at PlayStation Showcase.

“The first Spider-Man is like Star Wars, and Spider-Man 2 is our Empire Strikes Back,” Marvel creative vice president Bill Roseman said on the This Week In Marvel podcast. He briefly touched on the two new titles being developed by Insomniac, with a slightly greater focus on Spider-Man. And it makes sense, given that the studio is used to much lighter games, so that this new approach will be a new challenge for them.

On the other hand, while it didn’t leave us with many notable details about Marvel’s Wolverine (which was surprisingly announced at the recent PS5 digital event), it does invite us to take a closer look at the teaser trailer. According to Roseman, the video is “full of details and easter eggs”, and an approximate release date will be announced in the future.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to hit stores in 2023, with no specific day or month on the calendar yet. We know that the official announcement trailer ran in real-time on PS5, which gives us hope for another technical surprise. We’ll have to wait for the sequel, but Insomniac has always struck us as one of the critical studios behind the recent success of Sony‘s consoles.
