Post Mortem Stars At The Toronto After Dark Film Festival

MOVIE NEWS – Péter Bergendy’s Post Mortem has won ten awards at one of the world’s most prestigious horror, sci-fi, action and cult film festivals, the 15th Toronto After Dark Film Festival, where the audience votes instead of the jury. The “spookiest” horror film was awarded the most prizes by the audience, including Best Horror Film, Best Director. At the same time, 12-year-old Fruzsina Hais, who was on set during the filming, was voted Best Supporting Actress.

 

Bergendy’s film has so far been screened at 28 foreign festivals around the world – 18 in the main competition – and has now won a total of 23 awards. The National Film Institute has nominated Post Mortem to represent Hungary in the International Film category of the 94th Academy Awards in 2022. In addition to Viktor Klem and Fruzsina Hais, the film features such great actors as Judit Schell, Zsolt Anger, Gabriella Hámori, Diána Magdolna Kiss, Kossuth Prize winner Andrea Ladányi and Gábor Reviczky. The film will be released in cinemas from 28 October.

At the 15th Toronto After Dark Film Festival, Post Mortem took home the most awards, made all the more credible by the fact that the winners at one of the world’s most prestigious horror, sci-fi, action and cult film festivals are chosen solely by the votes of the audience. Bergendy’s film took home < substantial>10 awards: Best Film: Bronze Medal, Best Horror Film, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress (Fruzsina Hais), Best Special Effects, Best Sound Design, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Scariest Film and “the film we most want to see a sequel to”.

Péter Bergendy’s permanent sound engineer Gábor Balázs used several authentic animal sounds for the extraordinary sound effects and sound design, including camel, bear, donkey, seal, walrus and orangutan. In contrast, the human additions to the otherworldly sounds were mainly provided by creative producer Gábor Hillebrandt, with Zsolt Anger, Gabriella Hámori and Mari Nagy also making their voices heard among the screams and supernatural sounds.

After festivals in Ireland and Spain at the end of October, Post Mortem will next be among the best of the best in the official international competition programme of the 19th Ravenna Nightmare Film Festival. This prestigious European horror festival evokes the dark side of cinema on 5 November in Italy.

In the freezing winter of 1918, Tomás (Viktor Klem), a young cattle-driver, tries to make a living by taking the last photographs of the dead in the circle of their family. At the invitation of a ten-year-old girl (Fruzsina Hais), he travels to a small village where he finds exceptional work and an increasing number of supernatural phenomena. The ghosts have something to tell him, and he is determined to find out what they are after. But he’s on dangerous ground: every wrong move triggers a new attack, even more ferocious than the last.

Made with the support of the National Film Institute, Post Mortem, winner of 4 Hungarian Cinema Awards, is Hungary’s official entry in the 2022 94th Academy Awards for the international film category. The film stars Viktor Klem and Fruzsina Hais, alongside Judit Schell, Zsolt Anger, Gabriella Hámori, Diána Magdolna Kiss, Kossuth Prize winner Andrea Ladányi and Gábor Reviczky.

András Nagy is responsible for the pictures, István Király for the editing, Gábor Balázs for the sound, Balázs Hujber for the sets, János Breckl for the costumes, Dániel Hámori for the special masks, Attila Pacsay for the music, Zoltán Benyó for the visual effects. Piros Zánkay wrote the screenplay. The story is the work of director Péter Bergendy and creative producer Gábor Hellebrandt. The Post Mortem will be released in Hungarian cinemas on 28 October by InterCom.
