Xbox Series: The Capture Function Will Improve Next Year

Allegedly, the Xbox Series S became the best-selling console throughout Black Friday, which is a surprise.

But let’s start with the capture functionality, which Jason Ronald, Xbox’ program management director, mentioned on the Iron Lords podcast: “I will say that Game DVR is the one area – the capture and share experience – that I wish we were able to make more progress this year than we were able to. It is a priority for us. We hear the feedback. We have made some changes, and we have made some improvements to the reliability and the quality of the captures, but we know we still have work to do here.

So that is a priority for us and something that we’re going to continue to iterate on. The best thing that I can recommend is, if you’re not in the Insider rings, get in the Insider rings so that as we bring new capabilities, we bring further improvements…We want that feedback to know where we’re meeting the bar and where we’re not meeting the bar. But definitely, message heard, and as I said, capture is an area that I wish we were able to make more progress this year than we did, but it will be a priority for 2022,” Ronald said.

What about the achievements? Will Xbox get similar solutions to PlayStation’s Platinum trophies? “Regarding achievements, we’ve heard that feedback as well. Achievements are an interesting one, just from the standpoint of everyone playing games differently. Do we think about how we reward people for playing the way we want to and the games we want to? Some players just prefer to play multiplayer. What are we doing to reward them or to show progression?

Others play a ton of different games. How do we respect that investment? Then there are completionists like myself who want to go into a game and complete everything within that game. So it’s a balance, and it’s an area where we’ve heard some feedback. Nothing to announce today but definitely top of mind for us as we look to the road ahead,” Ronald answered. So expect improvements on this front, too.

Business Insider wrote about Adobe Digital Economy Index’ report. It analyzed a whopping 1 trillion visits to retail sites and directly surveyed over 1000 retailers. While they did not get hard sales numbers (we only got some from the UK, where the Nintendo Switch came out on top), they claim the Xbox Series S sold the most during Black Friday. Then again, it’s a cheap console that can be used streaming, but without 4K in mind…

She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
