MOVIE NEWS – Following Downton Abbey 2019, Downton Abbey: A New Era is back with a sequel, which one of the main characters, Hugh Bonneville, describes in typical English terms: a pudding that everyone loves. “It’s unashamedly pleasant cinema,” contrasts Julian Fellowes, creator of the TV series.

The Hollywood Reporter analyses that the series and the two films appeal to an audience that is not a fan of superhero mega-productions, preferring moving and thought-provoking pieces. They are the over-fifties, and Downton Abbey can attract them to theatres.

“Perhaps the secret of its success is that we’ve managed to create the perfect mix of genres,” Bonneville continues, “There’s drama, a bit of soap opera, a lot of threads in the plot and some heartbreaking situations at the climaxes.”
