Star Wars Andor: Disney Has Already Requested Season 2, Ahead of the Series Premiere

MOVIE NEWS – A star of the upcoming Disney+ series has recently announced that Star Wars Andor will have a second season.

While Star Wars fans wait for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series to arrive in May this year, the upcoming series will be Star Wars Andor. Tony Gilroy’s prequel series Rogue One will see the return of Diego Luna as the rebel spy Cassian Andor. The upcoming series has been in the works for quite some time, with several delays. A star of the forthcoming Disney+ series recently confirmed that Star Wars Andor would have a second season. In a recent interview with Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter, actor Stellan Skarsgard revealed that Disney+ had renewed Andor for a second season.

“We’re starting Dune 2 in July. And then, in the fall, we’ll have the second season of the Star Wars series Andor. I don’t know when it will start airing. It’s going to take a while so that there’s not too much time between the first and second season”.

Although Skarsgard confirmed that Andor had been renewed for a second season, he still doesn’t know when the series’s first season will debut. Now that it’s been confirmed that filming for Star Wars Andor season 2 will begin this fall, fans can expect season 2 to premiere sometime in 2023. Skarsgard confirmed that Andor would have multiple seasons and revealed that filming for Dune: Part 2 will begin this July. Back in September 2021, Skarsgard also confirmed that Saw Gerrera, played by Forest Whitaker, will return in the upcoming series.

Star Wars: Andor is an upcoming American television series created by Tony Gilroy. The series will be a prequel to Rogue One, premiered in 2016. Star Wars: Andor will follow the character of Cassian Andor and will take place five years before the events of the original film. Diego Luna will reprise his role as the character from Rogue One but will also executive produce the prequel series. In the upcoming series, Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller and Genevieve O’Reilly will also star.

Lucasfilm originally announced the new Star Wars series, which will focus on Andor, back in November 2018. Diego Luna was signed on at the time, and Stephen Schiff was signed on as showrunner. Stephen Schiff was later replaced as creator and showrunner by Rogue One co-creator Tony Gilroy in April 2020. Star Wars: Andor began filming at the end of November 2020, with Tony Gilroy unable to direct as planned due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Filming mainly occurred at Pinewood Studios in London and various locations in England and Scotland.

Although there is no official release date yet, Star Wars: Andor is expected to debut sometime in late 2022. The series was initially scheduled to debut in 2021 before production was postponed due to the COVID-19 epidemic. The first season will consist of 12 episodes in total and will premiere on Disney+. Expect some “familiar faces” to make an appearance, who are you hoping to see return in Star Wars: Andor?
