Indiana Jones 5: The Long-Running Filming Has Finally Ended

MOVIE NEWS – As the filming has ended, Harrison Ford has finally hung up the whip.

Filming on Indiana Jones 5, which began last summer without an official title, has now come to an end, as producer Frank Marshall announced on Twitter with a picture. Scheduled for release next summer, the film will be the first in the franchise, which began in 1981, without Steven Spielberg in the director’s chair and George Lucas working on the script, and is believed to be the last to see Harrison Ford take up the whip of the adventurous archaeology professor.

As we wrote earlier about the film, a theatrical production of this kind usually takes no longer than 2-3 months to shoot, but Indiana Jones 5 was held up by several circumstances. One of them was, of course, the pandemic that has disrupted the entire film industry, but Ford was injured during the shoot, and the script was being pushed and pulled even while the cameras were rolling. So it wasn’t an easy job for James Mangold (Logan – Wolf), who took over from Spielberg as director, but hopefully, it will be a worthy farewell for Indy.

The longer-than-expected shooting schedule also led Lucasfilm’s parent company Disney to postpone the release date of Indiana Jones 5 by a year last autumn: initially scheduled for this summer, the film is now scheduled for release on 30 June 2023 (in the US).

“That’s a wrap!!!” – Marshall wrote in a post announcing the end of filming, alongside an Indiana Jones hat:

Ford will probably be wearing his familiar hat in the fifth film, rather than a cap like the one above, and this assumption is supported – along with common sense – by leaked photos from the set last year, which showed the iconic headgear and whip. There is no information on the story of Indiana Jones 5 at the moment. Still, we do know that it will feature Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Toby Jones, Antonio Banderas and Olivier Richters.
