This Year’s Tokyo Game Show Will Be In-Person, But With Online Elements

Tokyo Game Show is set to return to business as usual, with a personal presence for visitors and business customers alike.

The Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) has announced that this year’s Tokyo Game Show (TGS onwards) will take place from September 15 to 18 at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba. The first two days of the Japanese event will be closed to business visitors, while the second two days will be open to the public. General admission will be available from 2 pm on the second business day. In 2020, TGS used a fully online format, while it used a mixed form (online and in-person) last year.

According to CESA, the slogan chosen for this year’s event is Nothing Stops Gaming because more fun events have disappeared from our lives in the last two years. Still, games are always a better way to create a better atmosphere, and this year’s theme reflects that strong determination. This year’s programmes will also feature live English translation, and several successful shows from last year’s event will return this year.

“We had to give up doing fun things one after another over these two years. How many times have we thought, what happened to our days? Even then, we still had games that kept us going. Thrilling plot twists; captivating and heated experiences lightened up our everyday life. Games became our hope. 2022 is the year to show the real spirit of games. Tokyo Game Show has the mission to create our hope and beyond. Update our possibilities. Unprecedented excitement is always born out of something you have never imagined. Let’s open the gate to the forefront of games. Give courage and enthusiasm to everyone. Show your love of games to each other. For everyone to share the “great feeling of living in this era.” Let’s dive into the heart of the game craze. Nothing Stops Gaming!!!” CESA wrote.

There will be a general exhibition area (open on all four days), a smartphone section, an augmented reality (XR = VR+AR, virtual and augmented reality) area, an indie region; one area where future game creators can meet with specialist schools, and one place where you can buy merchandise. These will be open on all four days.

The business section will have meeting facilities (depending on the exhibitor when they are there), the new stars area will have Asian, Eastern European and Latin American developers (again, opening times vary), and the site open only on the first two days will be a relaxed environment for business meetings. The organisers’ programme: online, there will be keynote speeches on September 15, and then on September 16, also online, there will be the Sense of Wonder Night, where developers can present indie concepts to the industry to win prizes. During TGS, the Japan Game Awards 2022 will be streamed online at a date yet to be announced. On the 15th, the first eSports Conference, hosted by the Japan eSports Union, will be streamed online and in person.

There will also be online programmes, which will be listed on the TGS website. There will also be game demos to try out, online business meetings and finally, TGS VR, the virtual realm, will return this year.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
