Will Bungie’s Next Game Be Character-Focused And In Third Person?

Bungie (now part of Sony Interactive Entertainment) might be developing a PlayStation-exclusive title.

The Game Post has discovered Bungie’s website has been abuzz with job offers. Since last year, people have been looking for a competitive, PvP-style (player versus player) game, but the new listings suggest that two ideas can be added to this. On the one hand, it could be a character-centric creation, and on the other hand, its gameplay could be set in the third person.

The job listings all mention an unannounced action game in development. Bungie is looking for people experienced in PvP multiplayer map design, previous experience in platformers, isometric view, etc., an external perspective, character-centric action games. Experience in competitive games, possibly eSports, is an added advantage.

Since joining PlayStation Studios, Bungie has repeatedly said that it will develop multiplatform games, and there are no plans to pull the rug out from under the Xbox release of Destiny 2. It could be important because we’ve written before that Sony’s plan for a cross-entertainment approach would give the studio a significant role so that they can apply their skills not only to video games but also to TV, animated films and other entertainment genres, which can only be helped by their live service and multiplayer experience, which they’ve already built up with the first two Destiny titles…

Bungie‘s new IP is likely still in its early stages, so it’s in the design (incubation) phase, i.e. pre-production. In other words, there is no development work underway on the project, which Sony and Bungie will not be announcing anytime soon. So it’s too early to speculate on what the game might be called, what it’s going to be called, and when it will even be released.

It won’t be a big surprise if the project ends up being a live-service, free-to-play title, as Sony still has some way to go in this area.
