Brie Larson Thought Johnny Depp Was An Extra On The Set Of 21 Jump Street

MOVIE NEWS – After Johnny Depp dressed for the set of 21 Jump Street, no one was able to recognise him, not even co-star Brie Larson.

Christopher Miller, one of the directors of the 2012 film adaptation of 21 Jump Street, shared a funny story about Johnny Depp‘s cameo in the film. In the original TV series of the same name, which inspired Miller’s film, Johnny Depp played police officer Tom Hanson for the first four seasons of the series. Although the film rebooted the story with new actors in the lead roles, played by Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, Miller found a way to bring back some of the original stars.

In one scene, Depp appears with his original 21 Jump Street co-star Peter DeLuise.

The two of them reprise their roles as Tom Hanson and Doug Penhall, although they enter the scene in disguise for the first time, as they are working in disguise. Depp is particularly hard to recognise with his long hair and beard, accompanied by a scarf and sunglasses. As Miller shares in a new post on Twitter, Johnny Depp was so unrecognisable after donning this disguise that even Brie Larson, one of the stars of the film, had no idea it was even him, assuming that the bearded individual who had just walked onto the set could only be an extra.

“Our 1st week was the climactic shootout with Johnny Depp,” says Miller, who revealed that the actor also took advantage of his new look to go sightseeing locally. “Unrecognisable in his biker costume (Brie Larson thought he was an extra) he realised an opportunity & disappeared for 3 hrs over meal break & returned saying he’d never been to Bourbon St in NOLA so he walked it incognito.”

As 21 Jump Street was a big hit, it was followed by a sequel: 22 Jump Street was released in 2014. There were plans for a spinoff with a female lead, and even…

… a crossover with Men in Black was rumoured!

“It’s true that there have been a lot of these things developed. There was, believe it or not, a Men in Black/Jump Street crossover script that was very funny and very crazy that we really adored,” co-director Phil Lord explained on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

Although the aforementioned Men in Black crossover never came to fruition, will the franchise return? The answer is a resounding yes, at least if you ask Channing Tatum. Because back in February, Tatum breathed new life into hopes that we might see another film. The actor has hinted that he’d like to bring Brad Pitt onboard for 23 Jump Street if it ever comes to fruition. However, despite Tatum’s enthusiasm, no sequel is officially in the works at the moment.
