This year’s Cannes Film Festival Will Be All About Tom Cruise

MOVIE NEWS – Festival director Thierry Frémaux has long wanted Tom Cruise’s long-awaited film, Top Gun: Maverick, to be shown at this year’s 75th Cannes Film Festival.

His dream comes true, so much so that the star also pays homage to the event, while retrospectively screening the best productions of his successful career.

Cruise last appeared on the Croisette 30 years ago, when Beyond the Opera was released.

Ten years ago, in an interview with Playboy, the actor-producer revealed why he likes to promote his films anywhere in the world. Growing up in a not-too-wealthy family, they couldn’t travel, so as a Cruise movie star, he made up for the gap and toured the entire planet on his press tours. Initially, he had to put pressure on studios that focused on U.S. revenue and didn’t understand why Cruise in Hong Kong and Calcutta wanted to fool around with fans. Then, when foreign revenues began to outpace domestic ones, the studios realized it was worth investing in marketing tours. Cruise has become a global superstar, and many Hollywood pull names have followed suit since then.
