Will Jim Carrey’s Retirement Affect His Character In Sonic?

MOVIE NEWS – Jim Carrey decided to retire after very significant decades of acting. It seems that his last role is Robotnik in the new Sonic movies. Will the retirement affect his role? His producers answer.

A few days ago, Jim Carrey announced his professional retirement, ending a career spanning more than 40 years. His retirement touches the world of video games. He has been in charge of bringing to life one of the most recognisable villains in the industry, Dr Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik in Sonic, the movie and Sonic, the Movie 2. The people in charge of the saga have wanted to comment on the news.

“Jim Carrey will always be a member of the Sonic family and will always have a place in those films and TV series where he likes to be. We love Jim. What he’s done with Robotnik is incredible,” commented Cinematic Universe producers Neal H. Moritz and Toby Ascher in a chat with IGN. “I feel that he loves Robotnik so much that I don’t think he can walk away from him.”

But can Paramount Pictures recast the character for the already announced Sonic, the Movie 3? “We wouldn’t even try,” Moritz assures us.

So it seems clear that if Jim Carrey doesn’t make the exception for the next blue hedgehog movie, the story of Dr Eggman in the video game adaptations is history. However, there are still few, if any, details about the new film.

As well as a third instalment, the Sonic universe already has a show in the works for Paramount+, home of Halo: The Series, about Knuckles, who plays an antagonistic role in Sonic the Movie 2, now available in cinemas worldwide.
