MOVIE NEWS – Anne Heche is expected to survive after first crashing into an apartment complex garage and then a nearby house in Los Angeles, according to information released so far.
The actress is expected to survive the fiery car crash that happened Friday in the Mar Vista neighbourhood of Los Angeles. Eyewitnesses told TMZ that the star of I Know What You Did last summer and many other movies was driving a blue Mini Cooper and crashed into the garage of an apartment complex. According to TMZ, residents of the apartment complex tried to get Heche out of the vehicle, but he reversed the car and drove off. Shortly after, he crashed into a nearby house and started a massive fire. The fire engulfed the house, and firefighters were dispatched to the 1800 block of South Walgrove Avenue. Fifty-nine firefighters arrived on the scene and completely managed to contain and extinguish the fire in 65 minutes.
After obtaining a picture of Heche taken through the passenger side window, TMZ further reported:
“Take a closer look at the photo of Anne in the car (above) … there’s a red-capped bottle in the cup holder next to the gear lever and it looks like a bottle of alcohol. We don’t know the extent of her injuries or burns. We understand he is currently intubated in hospital but is expected to survive.”
Heche appears to have suffered severe burns in the fire. His clothes appeared charred when he was carried away on a stretcher. At one point, while covered in a white cloth, he suddenly sat up on the stretcher and began flailing wildly as he was loaded into the ambulance. Reportedly, because of his condition, doctors are unable to carry out any tests to determine whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol. Heche’s car was completely charred in the fiery crash and his burnt back was visible as he sat up on the stretcher.
Anne Heche won a 1991 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series for her roles as Vicky Hudson and Marley Love in the soap opera Another World. She is also known for her high-profile romance with Ellen DeGeneres in the 1990s. The 53-year-old actress has spoken openly about her painful childhood, which stemmed from being sexually abused by her father, and her past struggles with substance abuse. Heche gave an interview to ABC News in 2020:
“I drank. I smoked. I did drugs. I had sex with people. I did everything I could to get the shame out of my life. I’m not crazy. But this is a crazy life. I grew up in a crazy family, and it took me 31 years to beat the crazy out of myself.”
KTLA reports that Heche suffered “severe burns”. No other injuries have been reported and the cause of the accident is under investigation. Heche’s representatives could not immediately be reached.
