CINEMA NEWS – Harvey Weinstein asked for his trial to be postponed because the jury could be emotionally influenced by the movie He Said, which will be released soon. The production is about Weinstein’s criminal dealings, more specifically about how the truth came out.
The powerful Hollywood producer harassed women for decades until two reporters from The New York Times went after the subject and investigated everything about it. Pulitzer Prize-winning reporters Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey are played by Zoe Kazan and two-time Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan. Weinstein has already been sentenced to 23 years for multiple counts of sexual assault and harassment, which, given that he is 70 years old and in very poor health is effectively a life sentence. He appealed, but his prospects did not get any brighter. The court rejected his application for postponement due to the film screening.
Weinstein’s revelations greatly contributed to the launch of the #MeToo movement, under the banner of which celebrities who have been victims of sexual violence come forward against former perpetrators.
