Cyberpunk 2077 is Now One of the Most Played Games on Steam Deck

Steam Deck users spend a lot of time in Night City.

Valve has just released its list of Steam Deck games for September based on total hours played, and it looks like Cyberpunk 2077’s momentum is expanding to handheld games. CD Projekt Red’s 2020 sci-fi open-world RPG found itself in fourth place on the list, along with a few of last month’s iterations like Vampire Survivors, Elden Ring and Stardew Valley.

It’s not surprising to see Cyberpunk so high in the rankings, given that we recently reported it attracted more than 1 million daily players alone last week. It’s starting to feel like a second launch, after CD Projekt Red’s 1.6 “Edgerunners” update finally added the much-anticipated transmog system. I can confirm that I spent at least two of those Steam Deck hours meticulously organizing the V’s outfits.

Aside from the update, it seems that the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime on Netflix has brought some Cyberpunk 2077 owners back to Night City. According to our unofficial anime editor Wes Fenlon, the movie was fun. CDPR even added some in-game items based on the anime, like David’s jacket.

We joked last month when we saw the Steam Deck games August top list that everyone was using their Deck like a better Nintendo Switch. It’s a sentiment I can get behind because Steam Deck plays some Nintendo Switch games better than the Switch itself.

CD Projekt Red announced this week that Cyberpunk 2077 has passed 20 million copies sold, a pretty impressive milestone. Cyberpunk 2077 will also get an expansion next year called Phantom Liberty, which will see the return of V and his computer ghost friend Johnny Silverhand, with Keanu Reeves reprising his role.
