The Nosferatu Remake Starring Bill Skarsgard and Lily-Rose Depp is Coming

MOVIE NEWS – Nosferatu: The star of Az and Johnny Depp’s daughter star in the new vampire film from the director of The North.

Nosferatu from 1922 is one of the greatest classics in film history. However, it almost got all its copies shuttered because director F.W. Murnau and his team didn’t really ask permission from Bram Stoker’s heirs to use Dracula’s motifs, story and characters. Fortunately, the expressionist stylistic direction and evergreen of vampire horror have been saved, and Robert Eggers, director of The Witch and The North, is making a new adaptation. Finally, it has been revealed who will play the lead vampire, Count Orlok, who is referred to in the title as Bill Skarsgård, who played the white-masked monster in The Az. He will be joined in the film by Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis’ daughter Lily-Rose Melody Depp (Big Game), who has been cast as the female lead.

Deadline reports that Skarsgård will play the “title character” in Eggers’ film. Lily-Rose Depp is also in talks to join the film. In fact, Deadline said that Depp is technically already in the project, and she will play a tempted young woman living in 19th century Germany. The vampire count from Transylvania becomes obsessed with her, following her everywhere, with horror and death in his wake, most likely in the form of plague rats. This motif was prominent in the 1922 silent film and Werner Herzog’s 1979 remake. Anya Taylor-Joy, Robert Eggers’ favourite actress, was also supposed to star in the remake of Nosferatu. Still, Deadline reports that she won’t be, as she doesn’t have the time for it, so another actress had to be found for the female lead.

Nosferatu is a long-cherished project for Eggers. The writer-director had wanted to remake it for his second film but changed his mind and felt it would be disrespectful to start with such an evergreen classic. There was also a version that would have featured the recently hot Harry Styles as the vampire with Anya Taylor-Joy. The director had Lily-Rose Depp as one of his top candidates when it came to choosing a new actress for the female lead.
