Travis Willingham, the actor who played Kingpin in Marvel’s Spider-Man, has expressed interest in reprising the character in next year’s sequel.
The actor who brought Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, to life in Marvel’s Spider-Man has expressed interest in reprising the character in the sequel. In recent years, Fisk’s presence outside of comics has grown quite a bit. He was the main villain in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. He appeared in the Hawkeye series on Disney+, and he was in Insomniac’s 2018 open-world action game.
Kingpin is one of the reasons why Marvel’s Spider-Man made such a solid first impression on so many players.
In the game’s action-packed opening scene, Peter Parker tricks his way through Fisk Tower and its security before finally taking on Fisk himself in an intense, cinematic boss fight. The scene ends with the crime boss going to prison. But Fisk’s presence would be felt in the rest of the game and the Spider-Man: Miles Morales spinoff. Fans hope this sets the stage for a more prominent role in next year’s sequel.
They include Kingpin’s voice and motion capture actor Travis Willingham. Speaking to Comic Book Movie, Willingham was asked about his character Fisk in Insomniac’s games. He said he was a “great, great character” and that it was a “pleasure” to take on the role of such an egotistical villain. When asked if he would like to play him again in Spider-Man 2, he said it would be “a pleasure to play him” if the character came up.
This, of course, begs the question of whether Fisk will reappear in the next game.
Confirmed villains for Spider-Man 2 include Venom and Kraven the Slayer – that’s it as of now. This is likely to change as the game nears release. There’s a good chance the final line-up of Spider-Man villains will include plenty of new and returning faces. It’s also possible that Insomniac will make room for Kingpin somewhere down the line.
Insomniac is keeping things under wraps for now regarding the next Spider-Man game. Aside from the villains above, the only confirmed details are that Peter Parker and Miles Morales will be making appearances. The developer has also stated that the game will be single-player only, despite the inclusion of two Spider-Men. However, recent rumours have suggested that Spider-Man 2 will include some multiplayer mode. Insomniac may have a surprise in store for players hoping to team up with Spider-Man to fight crime.
For now, fans can at least take comfort in the fact that answers will be on the horizon soon.
With Spider-Man 2 still on track for a 2023 release, it won’t be long before Insomniac starts talking about the details of the game.
