A Highly Optimistic Forecast From Remedy Entertainment

According to the Finnish studio, the Alan Wake sequel and the co-op Control project look good.

Remedy Entertainment has released its quarterly earnings report, as reported by WCCFTech. In addition to the financial situation of the Finnish team, Remedy CEO Tero Virtala also discussed the status of the upcoming projects. For example, he wrote about Alan Wake 2: “Alan Wake 2 is in the full production stage, and the game will be launched as planned in 2023. There is still much work to be done, but the game is coming together on all fronts. User testing continues, and the feedback from the user research has been encouraging. After seeing how the elements are coming together, I’m confident we will launch an excellent game.”

But it is just one of five (!) officially confirmed projects! A minor team is working on the Max Payne 1&2 Remake, so it may be the furthest from being finished. Three months ago, the live service, co-op multiplayer Vanguard project, was postponed as Remedy tries to stand out from the crowd with their product. Still, they need time… and workforce, which they have a solution for: the developer roster will be expanded considerably as we approach release in 2023.

Then he mentioned the two Control games, code-named Condor and Heron. Condor will be a multiplayer game, and while it’s still in concept form, Virtala says it’s already pretty good: “Our development team has discovered smart ways to utilize the world of Control, as well as designs that ensure a cooperative player experience that fits into the world of Condor. These designs are being prototyped, and the gameplay already in this early phase feels fun. We are giving the team time to work on many important game design elements and finalize the key pillars before moving the project to the next development phase.” In the meantime, Heron is in the concept phase, and the number of people working on it is slowly increasing, and that will only change once they can quickly prototype it.

The Finnish company expects to release at least one game annually between 2023 and 2025. Alan Wake 2 will be released by Epic Games in 2023 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC (on Epic Games Store), and if we had to guess, followed by Vanguard in 2024, and then Condor in 2025… but we’ll be proven wrong.
