MOVIE NEWS – Henry Cavill will officially leave the series after the third season, leaving another actor to take on Geralt’s role. Oh, and there will be a fourth season…
Netflix has announced on its website that Liam Hemsworth will take over the role of Geralt in The Witcher, starting with season four. “Some news to share from The Continent… My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with monsters and adventures; alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4. In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will take up the White Wolf’s mantle. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has such incredible depth. Enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find,” Cavill wrote in his farewell message on Instagram.
Previously, Cavill said he would take on the role of Geralt for up to seven seasons if Netflix gave him its blessing. Cavill was excellent as Geralt because he could express the character’s emotional and intellectual complexity in a significant way. Will Hemsworth be able to do anything similar or even better? Whatever the answer, there is a good chance that Cavill chose to leave because he is about to play Superman, one of Warner’s DC comic book characters, on the big screen. He recently took a break from the third season to make a cameo appearance in the Black Adam movie, which debuted in October.
“As a Witcher fan, I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure. Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world,” Hemsworth, who starred in Independence Day: Resurgence, reacted on Instagram.
Interestingly, some of the writers of the Netflix series didn’t like the original Andrzej Sapkowski works or the CD Projekt RED games…
