TECH NEWS – If a game inexplicably starts to stutter when it shouldn’t, it’s a good idea to revert to a previous operating system version.
According to Microsoft’s website, one of the acknowledged problems with the latest Windows 11 update is “lower than expected performance in some games”. Frame rates may be choppy or dropping heavily, but several users have also reported screen tearing. According to the US tech firm, “affected games and apps are inadvertently enabling GPU performance debugging features not meant to be used by consumers”, and that’s why games run worse!
So the features are intended for developers to optimize their games correctly, but somehow they become active regardless of user input. Microsoft recommends updating your games and apps to the latest versions possible. If poor performance persists despite it, it is recommended that you revert to the previous version of Windows 11. You’ll find this option in the system settings under the recovery features.
Of course, you should do it as soon as possible, as the restore function disappears after a specific time. In the past, Microsoft limited this to about ten days, so if you have upgraded to version 22H2 in the last week, you should still be able to roll back. If the option is not there, we either have to wait for Redmond to fix the bug, apply a recovery image, or we are left with reinstalling, which is the least convenient of these options.
There have also been reports of unexpectedly poor performance on Windows Central and the PC gaming subreddit, so it seems relatively common that Windows 11 22H2 has been a thorn in the side of gamers who weren’t expecting it when they updated their operating system. OK, on PCs, it’s common to have an “unplug, replug” solution to many problems, but it’s not something that a simple reboot can solve.
So, we’ll have to wait for Microsoft to reveal how the developer debugging functions are leaked to users…
