NetherRealm Studios creative director Ed Boon recently held an AMA on Twitter, discussing everything from the characters in Mortal Kombat 12 to Injustice 3.
Ed Boon opened up on Twitter: he took the time to answer questions from fans. NetherRealm’s next game will reportedly be either Mortal Kombat 12 or Injustice 3. If it’s the former, Boon has good news for horror fans hoping for scarier characters in the franchise.
A fan on Twitter asked Boon if there will be more horror guest stars in future Mortal Kombat instalments.
He answered the question with a resounding yes, suggesting that fans can definitely expect more horror characters. Despite the recent announcement that a Mortal Kombat: Onslaught mobile RPG is in development, fans are more hopeful that Boon is referring to the next iteration of the mainline titles. How long fans will have to wait for the next title remains in the air. After all, there are rumours that Injustice 3 could be on the table as NetherRealm’s next game.
Could some neglected Mortal Kombat faces show up?
Mortal Kombat 12 could see the return of some of the most popular characters from the 3D era of Mortal Kombat. Although Mortal Kombat 12 has yet to be officially announced, it seems Ed Boon is already preparing fans for what’s in store in the sequel to the iconic fighting game.
Responding to a fan’s question about the lack of 3D-era characters in modern Mortal Kombat games, Boon claims that Mortal Kombat 12 will “fix that problem soon”.
Boon is happy to tease fans on Twitter about possible titles from NetherRealm Studios. But the creator’s latest hints strongly favour Mortal Kombat 12. If Boon’s tweets are accurate, Mortal Kombat 12 will feature more 3D characters at launch. In response to Boon’s reaction, fans have already begun anticipating the return of characters like Ashrah and Havik.
Ed Boon is keen to bring back a specific Injustice character…
Ed Boon has hinted that Raven could return as a playable character in Injustice 3 after missing from Injustice 2.
Raven first appeared in 2013’s Injustice series, Injustice: Gods Among Us, where he was one of the playable characters in NetherRealm’s DC Comics brawler.
In the game’s “primary” universe, he fought alongside the Justice League, while on a parallel Earth, Raven accepted the power and influence of his father Trigon and served as a member of Superman’s regime. Raven did not appear in Injustice 2, appearing only in Starfire’s final scene after completing the game’s arcade mode.
Boon addressed Raven’s possible return in Injustice 3 during an impromptu “ask me anything”. A Twitter user named MissSikandra asked if players can expect Raven to return in Injustice 3. Boon replied that she would if he had “anything to say about it.” This does not clearly confirm Raven’s inclusion or that NetherRealm is even working on her.
