PlayStation Plus: These Are The Free Games For January – They’ve Made Our Jaws Drop!

Following last week’s leak, Sony has officially confirmed which free PlayStation Plus games subscribers will be able to claim in January 2023.

It’s been officially revealed that the free PlayStation Plus games for January 2023 are Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Fallout 76 and Axiom Verge 2. Sony usually uses the last Wednesday of every month to reveal the next batch of free PS Plus games, and this month is no exception to the rule.

Last week, trusted leaker billbil-kun claimed that the free PS Plus games for January 2023 would be Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Fallout 76 and Axiom Verge 2, and now an official announcement from Sony has confirmed the leak.

As Sony usually unveils the next free PS Plus games on the last Wednesday of every month, they typically become available on the first Tuesday of the following month. This will also be true for the free PS Plus games for January 2023. PlayStation Plus subscribers can download Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Fallout 76 and Axiom Verge 2 to their digital library from Tuesday, January 3. Games will be available to claim until February 6. It’s worth pointing out that PS4 versions of all three games are available, but PS5 gamers can also grab native PS5 versions of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Axiom Verge 2 if they wish. Fallout 76 does not have a next-gen version. But due to backwards compatibility between PS5 and PS4, it will be playable on Sony’s newer hardware.

Here’s the list of free PS Plus games for January 2023

  • Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (PS4/PS5) – January 3.
  • Fallout 76 (PS4) – January 3.
  • Axiom Verge 2 (PS4/PS5) – January 3.

It’s also worth pointing out that games are free for all PS Plus levels. Free PS Plus games every month is one of the main reasons to sign up for PS Plus Essential. PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers will also have access to these games. They will also be able to play several other games, although, at the time of writing, Sony has not yet revealed the PS Plus Extra and Premium games for January 2023, except for one title.

It was previously confirmed that WWE 2K22 would be added to PS Plus Extra on January 3. It’s unclear why WWE 2K22 will be separate from the other PS Plus Extra games. Subscribers may also be confused about why only the PS4 version of WWE 2K22 is coming. Given that there is also a PS5 version.

‘Heavy’ games coming to PlayStation Plus in January

PlayStation Game Size has revealed on Twitter that PS Plus members will need around 120GB of free storage to download games that will be available for free every month in January 2023. Fallout 76 is the biggest game on this list. It takes up a whopping 74,997 GB of space. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order on PS5 dwarfs it with 47.274 GB of space. Its PS4 counterpart requires 45,444 GB. Axiom Verge 2, on the other hand, is relatively tiny. The PS5 and PS4 versions only need around 250 MB and 300 MB, respectively.

Overall, PS5 owners will need around 122.5 GB of free space to download all three games.

It should be noted that PS4 games take up a little more space when installed on PS5. The total storage requirements may therefore be higher. In this case, Fallout 76 does not have a native PS5 release. Players wishing to play it will have no choice but to download the PS4 version. For comparison, free monthly PS Plus games in December 2022 required over 100 GB of free space. And Mass Effect Legendary Edition took up most of that space.
