Dead by Daylight: Is an Iconic Horror Character Leaving the Game?!

After six years, one of Dead by Daylight’s most iconic killers could leave the game due to legal issues. It won’t be the same without him.

Dead by Daylight’s bloody chariot got off to a bumpy start, but by now the asymmetrical serial killer multiplayer has significantly degenerated. Now in its seventh year, bloodthirsty players and survivors can throw themselves into a directly unbalanced power struggle with Leatherface, the emblematic masked rampage runner from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Now, for legal reasons, he may be leaving the impressive line-up.

For now, it’s not official, but according to Dead by Daylight leaker DBD Leaks, that will be the case, Leatherface will be leaving the killing scene this year. The reason for this is reportedly Sumo Digital’s upcoming game The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, which will be a similar asymmetrical multi, only with The Texas Chain Saw Massacre characters at the centre. There may also be legitimate reasons why Jason Voorhees and Friday the 13th are not represented in Dead by Daylight, and there is also a related game, Friday the 13th: The Game, which was technically cancelled due to the legal wrangling surrounding the franchise, but whose dedicated servers were shut down a few years ago. This, and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, is also published by Gun Media.

The information has also been confirmed on Twitter by a leaker called DbdNewsReal, which claims that it comes from insider sources who do not want to reveal their identity because it would probably have legal and professional consequences. The bottom line is that it’s almost certain that Leatherface is leaving Dead by Daylight. One commentator believes that this is linked to the fact that the Leatherface DLC is currently the only DLC that is not on sale on Steam, while all other downloadable content is. Of course, this is pure speculation, nothing more, but insider sources can be believed, even if the departure of the chainsaw-wielding monster should be treated with caution.

There has been a similar case. The Stranger Things DLC has been very popular, but it will no longer be available for purchase from November 2021, although those who own the related content (outfits, cosmetics) will still be able to use it. Skills and perks have been redesigned (renamed), and this is likely to be Leatherface’s fate if the character makes it out of Dead by Daylight. DbdNewsReal also added that there are lines in the Public Test Build that can be spotted that already show these changes, and you can only notice them if you don’t have the Leatherface DLC.
