The Twitter owner has realized that the $44 billion acquisition might not have been a good idea.
After taking control of Twitter, Elon Musk hasn’t been able to deal with the social platform as smoothly (it’s looking more and more like he wants to monetize everything, but we’ll come back to that) because he should be dealing with Tesla and SpaceX in addition to Twitter. He has criticized Twitter’s previous executives for content management, and it sounds like while SpaceX is undergoing a critical flight test, Musk seems to regret buying Twitter…
We still don’t know who Twitter’s new CEO will be. At least he understands that running the site is not that easy. In December, he asked his followers to stay at the company’s helm while he managed the acquisition of Twitter with his shares in Tesla and money from investors in the Middle East. In a tweet, he wrote: “sucks that I had to sell so much Tesla stock to [buy Twitter] *sigh*.” So he’s having second thoughts.
Musk has changed Twitter to what he believes is a balanced viewpoint. That’s why he managed to get former US president Donald Trump’s account reinstated after a vote (although the account hasn’t been used since) and Kanye West, although he was banned again a month later. He also called for a vote on his resignation, and 57.5% of the 17.5 million votes cast voted for his resignation while he was in Qatar during the World Cup final. It is said that he met not only Trump’s son-in-law but also Qatari and Saudi investors. Musk has already said he will head up the technical team once a suitable successor is found.
Meanwhile, SpaceX is testing the Super Heavy booster in Boca Chica. The goal is to activate all 33 engines on the rocket simultaneously. A successful test will allow the US Federal Aviation Administration to authorize the orbital test. SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell is said to oversee the testing, and the successful test makes it likely that the information is credible.
Twitter, meanwhile, has announced that from February 9, both the v1.1 and v2 APIs will be available for a fee only. So, for example, the automated accounts that post pictures every hour will also be discontinued, and Musk will lose quite a bit of content that the developers behind the accounts provided to the platform for FREE…
