Redfall: Good News For All Looking Forward To The Co-Op Shooter!

Bethesda has good news for fans regarding crossplay in the upcoming vampire co-op shooter Redfall, developed by Arkane Studios.

Bethesda has good news for fans looking for crossplay in its upcoming open-world co-op shooter Redfall. The studio recently held an “Ask Arkane Q&A” on Discord, where players could ask questions about the game before its May 2 release.

The Q&A was held on Arkane’s Discord server following Redfall’s release date announcement.

The title departs from Arkane’s typical single-player-only, immersive simulator titles. Examples include Dishonored and Prey. So fans had a lot of questions. One such question was about the night cycle, asking how this would affect gameplay, given that the enemies would be vampires. Arkane confirmed that players would face different enemies during the day and will still be able to progress. One big question that many fans want to be answered is crossplay.

The answer to whether Redfall will support crossplay has been shared on the game’s official Twitter page. The question and answers were posted in a clear and bold image. With the text “Crossplay confirmed between Xbox + PC Game Pass + Steam + Epic Game Store” added. Gamers can rest easy knowing they can join their friends online, regardless of where they play Redfall. However, some players are still not happy with Redfall’s always-online requirements. Given that the game can be played in single-player mode.

Twitter users seem evenly divided. Some say the crossplay features are a “huge win” for vampire fans. They celebrate the fact that crossplay is being extended to Steam and Epic. Others say the always-online features make it impossible for them to buy. They argue that the always-online feature has led to other titles being dropped. It should be remembered that for many, a stable internet connection is simply not viable.

Even though most contemporary media genres are moving towards online-only features such as streaming or cloud storage, many simply cannot afford to stay online or even to get a stable internet connection.

Gaming has always been an expensive hobby. But with the shift to a continuous online experience – something that was considered ridiculous not so long ago, when SimCity 2013 was released – and the steady rise in prices, as evidenced by the price increase in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, it seems that the hobby is becoming more and more expensive. For those who play online, it will be a relief that Redfall allows them to play with friends, regardless of which platform they play on.
