PS5’s latest update arrives today: Discord voice chat, VRR support for 1440p and more!

Sony releases the latest system software update for the PlayStation 5 console today, which brings a number of new features. The most anticipated innovations include Discord voice chat integration and variable refresh rate (VRR) support for 1440p resolution. In addition to these, this update also makes more graphical and user interface settings available.

The latest system software update for the PS5 was released today and brought with it a number of new features. The biggest hit is perhaps the integration of Discord, which allows PS5 owners to have voice-based conversations through one of the most popular VoIP and instant messaging social platforms. Discord is a free application that is primarily used by gamers for group communication and community building.

The integration of Discord means that PS5 owners can join their friends or other players on a voice channel, even if they are playing on PC or mobile devices. To do this, they just need to download the Discord app on their smartphone or tablet and link it to their PlayStation account. Then a special menu will be available from the PS5 control center, from where they can join or create a voice channel. The voice chat will run in parallel with the game sound.

Another big novelty is variable refresh rate (VRR) support for 1440p resolution. This means that if someone uses a monitor that supports VRR within this resolution (e.g., FreeSync or G-Sync), they can enjoy stutter-free and smooth visual performance without having to worry about average frame rate or blurred motion. VRR can dynamically adjust to how many frames a game can display at any given moment.

In addition to VRR support, some more graphical settings have been added by this update. For example, it is now possible to choose 1080p resolution on a monitor that would natively support 1440p (this was not possible before). This can be useful for games that do not scale well within this resolution. In addition, you can now turn off automatic HDR functionality for certain games.

The update also included minor fixes and optimizations. For example, it is now easier to find downloaded games in the game library, as they have now been placed in a separate category. In addition, it is now possible to assign a custom wallpaper or sound to a specific game in the control center.

The PS5 system software update became available to all PS5 owners today. Sony recommends that everyone update their console to the latest version to enjoy the new features and fixes.
