Resident Evil 4 Remake: Ada Wong’s Actress Hits Back At Critics With A Message!

Lily Gao has returned to Instagram to thank us for the job opportunity she has been given and to remind us that the Ada Wong she plays is more than just a stereotype.

The release of the Resident Evil 4 remake was accompanied by really positive reviews. However, quite a few users have complained about the performance of Lily Gao, Ada Wong’s voice actress. She has had to delete almost all the posts on her Instagram account due to the harassment she received on social media. Now, the actress is back with a message reflecting on the situation she has been in in recent weeks.

Gao has finally decided to use her Instagram account as a speaker for her statement.

Given the criticisms from gamers about her performance and the changes she made to the character in the Resident Evil 4 remake, the actress reminds us that Ada Wong is “not a stereotype”.

“Being the first Asian actor to portray Ada in the Resident Evil video games is an honour, and I will forever be grateful to our producer and director for making the decision on authentic representation,” says Gao, speaking in her first statement since she took a break from social media.

“While criticism is expected, it’s not the first time an actor of colour faces racist and sexist harassment, for simply participating,” she continues. “It is time we stop only capitalizing on the sexualized, eroticized, and mysterious Asian woman, and make space to honour every kind of Asian woman. My Ada is a survivor. She is kind, just, intelligent, and funny. She is unpredictable, resilient, and absolutely not a stereotype.”

Fortunately, Lily Gao has also received much praise for her role in Capcom’s title role, which completes an excellent piece of work. As we said in our review of the Resident Evil 4 remake, the game manages to pay homage to the original while adding modern touches. It is also important to note that the game has already received a free update with the Mercenaries mode. All the more reason to return to the adventure starring Leon S. Kennedy.
