Ben Affleck Sets A New Record: Two Huge Movie Flops In A Row!

MOVIE NEWS – The Ben Affleck thriller Hypnotic had an abysmal opening weekend, the star’s second flop in just a few months.

Hypnotic became the second Ben Affleck box office failure in recent months. In the new film, the latest from director Robert Rodriguez, Affleck plays Danny Rourke. The Austin-based detective is on the trail of a mysterious criminal who seems to be able to control minds. The sci-fi action film also stars Alice Braga, Jeff Fahey, Jackie Earle Haley and William Fichtner.

Deadline reports that despite its intriguing cast, the film had a terrible opening weekend at the domestic box office, according to available data.

Arriving with a production budget of $70 million, the film could earn just $2.5 million through Sunday. This makes the film Affleck’s second box office failure in a row. Air, released in April this year, made $85.5 million against a production budget of $90 million.

2023 is not a great year for Ben Affleck, yet

Air can’t necessarily be considered a flop, as despite not making back its budget, it was initially intended as a Prime Video exclusive. Because of this, the advertising budget was already factored into the film’s eventual streaming run. So whatever revenue it brings in can be considered pure profit by the Amazon studio. Moreover, the Michael Jordan and Nike biopic has received widespread acclaim. And it’s precisely because of Affleck’s direction and the cast’s performances.

The same can’t be said for Hypnotic, which received almost as bad reviews as the cinematic cut of Justice League in 2017, although admittedly, that’s no small feat.

Affleck’s career has been put in a difficult situation with this. After all, in order to get back on track, his next film needs to be a hit. Especially considering the poor reception of 2022’s Deep Water and the failure of The Last Stand a year earlier.

Ben Affleck’s next film will be The Flash, set in the DC universe. It has been controversial due to the alleged crimes of its lead actor Ezra Miller. Previous DC films, Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods have both disappointed at the box office. This problem has the potential to plague The Flash as well. Although, as the film is set to launch a new franchise branch overseen by James Gunn and Peter Safran, this could boost the film’s profile. And it could give Affleck the boost he needs.
