MOZI HÍREK – The world-famous actor Johnny Depp has visited Hungary several times this year, and it seems that the number of his visits is only halfway through. On one of the most recent occasions, he came to the Gellért Hotel to shoot a commercial for the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The commercial is traditionally filmed with the participation of award-winning actors and directors, but Depp has not won an award at the festival in recent years. Nevertheless, thanks to the warm welcome he received earlier, he said yes to the invitation, which also included the joke of the advertisement.
In 2023, Johnny Depp will pay his respects in Hungary several times, and he is already halfway through his visits this year. In the first half of the year, several events bring the star to our country: during a previous visit, he was not given a table at the restaurant he chose due to a private event, and in the near future he will be performing a concert here with his band Hollywood Vampires. In addition, according to Mandiner’s information, he will return to us in the fall to shoot the film Modi here, where he will participate not only as an actor but also as a director alongside Al Pacino.
During his last visit, the third of four, Johnny Depp was in Budapest for the filming of a commercial. The short film for the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival was shot at the Gellért Hotel, which started yesterday. The tradition of the festival is to make such films with award-winning directors and actors. Depp didn’t win the award during his stay there two years ago, but he received such a warm reception that he said yes to the invitation anyway, which also defined the joke of the commercial.
During the short film, we can see Depp entering one of the doors of the Gellért Szálló with his guitar case in hand for the sake of the interview. After a short, friendly conversation, the subject comes up that the actor doesn’t have a Crystal Globe bus, and he pulls out his clearly “personalized” award from his guitar case, thus proving the opposite.
The director of the film, Ivan Zachariáš, said about the filming: “Johnny indicated right at the beginning that he wanted to improvise. This surprised me at first, but then it turned out to be a great idea, because Johnny added more of his own personality to the film than I expected.” One of the organizers of the festival, Kryštof Mucha, also spoke positively about the project: “Johnny Depp received an amazingly warm reception from visitors and fans two years ago, and that’s why he became a big supporter of our festival. Thanks to his participation, the filming of the commercial was successful, despite that his schedule was extremely tight. The short film was excellent and I’m sure Johnny Depp will visit Karlovy Vary again in person one day.”
